I just shot these interviews for Salinas Valley Health, and they were a challenge to pull off. Because the rooms were small, and the overhead lights were casting an orange color on our subjects.
So right off the bat I turned those light off, and bounced a strong light off the ceiling, then I used 2 more lights to shape my subjects. After that we re-organized objects in the rooms, sometimes adding in objects (like the tools you see in the right corner of the final shot) and other times removing objects, until we were able to get the best look from each room. One of our interviews was outside, so we framed our subject to be backlit by the sun, and blasted a bright light onto her face so that she didn’t look like a shadow.

The Client didn’t want to spend time color grading, so I shot each of these videos in a natural look that wouldn’t require any color grading, and the video above, was the final result!
